The author currently works as a Detective Sergeant for a municipal police agency in Arizona. In 1993, he lost a brother to autoerotic asphyxiation. His search for understanding brought him to the University of Southern California in 1996, where he researched and wrote “The Autoerotic Asphyxiation Syndrome in Adolescent and Young Adult Males”. The paper is written from a victim family member’s perspective, with the added professional experience of a police investigator.
Since posting the paper on the web in 1996, the author has spoken, mostly through e-mail correspondence, to many victim-family members, friends and some practitioners of AeA. This resulted in continued research on AeA which helps the author and others better understand the little-understood Autoerotic Asphyxiation Syndrome.
The author has spoken, nationwide, to many professional groups of investigators, educators, doctors, victim’s assistance and mental health workers.
